Subject: Hosting needed for new UO International Students
Sent on behalf of Dennis Galvan and Abe Schafermeyer--

Dear Colleagues,

Each fall, the Office of International Affairs welcomes new international students to our community by placing them with local families, UO faculty and staff for just a few days prior to the start of International Student Orientation on September 17th.

Through a joint-effort of the Friendship Foundation for International Students<http://www.ffisoregon.org/> and the Office of International Affairs<http://international.uoregon.edu/index.php/students/homestay-program>, new international students live with host families instead of in hotels before moving into their permanent housing. The home stay program not only provides a safe and affordable temporary housing solution for new students, it also encourages cultural exchange and lifelong friendships. Attached is a recent newsletter of the Friendship Foundation for International Students with a story of a local host family and the student they hosted.

The homestay dates run from September 13-17, give or take a couple of days depending on the student's arrival date and housing move-in date. We are expecting another large number of new international students this year and still need about 45 more host families.

Please circulate this email to your faculty and staff. Interested individuals can sign up online at http://international.uoregon.edu/isss/community-volunteer or call Becky Megerssa in the Office of International Affairs at 541-346-1436 for more information.

Thank you for your continued support of our international students.
