This presentation will review professional recommendations for the use of
evidence-based practices with young children (18 months - five years of age)
with and at risk for autism spectrum disorder. The outcomes of interventions
based on the science of applied behavior analysis (ABA), relationship and
developmentally based interventions, and parent training will be discussed. 

Dr. Machalicek is an Assistant Professor in Special Education in the
Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences at the University of
Oregon. She is affiliated with the UO University Center for Excellence in
Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), the College of Education Educational and
Community Supports (ECS) research unit, and the Co-Executive Director of
Pearl Duck Autism Center. Prior to joining faculty at UO, she was an
Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at Portland
State University. Her scholarship focuses on the development and evaluation
of interventions in natural settings to improve the adaptive behavior of
young children with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental
disorders. To date, she has co-authored 49 peer-reviewed publications and 8
book chapters primarily on the topics of social communication, play, and the
assessment and treatment of challenging behavior.
