coe-staff: Alumni Awards Update

Hello,

We've made a few changes to our process for Alumni Awards.  First we've appointed a new Alumni Outreach Committee whose main task will be to review alumni award nominations and choose the recipients.  We've expanded the number of awards to 3, to allow us to honor alumni at various stages in their careers.

Our categories for alumni awards are:
The Outstanding Alumni Award: Given in recognition of alumni for significant contributions in education and other fields that have had a national impact on educational policy, professional practice, community service, research or scholarship.

The Distinguished Alumni Award: Given in recognition of alumni who have achieved significant professional, community service or personal accomplishments more than 10 years from their graduation date.

The Horizon Alumni Award: Given in recognition of alumni less than 10 years from their graduation date, who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in post-collegiate life and a significant or ongoing commitment to extraordinary work, research or volunteerism.

Each award would be given annually, although if we had a year where there were numerous strong nominations, we could reconsider and give out more awards.

At this point we will review awards in Winter, announce the recipients in Spring and give out the awards at Homecoming in Fall.

I encourage you to not only nominate alumni for these awards, but also to forward this information out to others, so that they can also provide nominations.  The cut off for this year's nomination process is February 3, 2014.
