coe-staff: Welcome Aaron Montoya

Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to introduce a new member of the marketing and communications staff, Aaron Montoya, our new Web Communications Specialist. This is the long-awaited position referred to by many as "Web Wrangler," a title I dearly wish we could have used formally, but I think we can still use colloquially.

Aaron is a 2009 graduate of Colorado State University in photo image making and graphic design. As a student, he was editor-in-chief of The Rocky Mountain Collegian, a student newspaper with a 10,000+ circ. He later worked as a photojournalist for the Denver Post, and later for a small regional newspaper. Since moving to Eugene in 2011, he has worked as a Mac technician and a freelance Web developer.

Broadly speaking, Aaron's duties will involve content creation and refinement. On the creative side, he is here to help us tell our story through a variety of media, chiefly the Web. He will meet regularly with department heads, directors and other members of the COE community to learn what is going on in their areas; make judgments as to what is newsworthy, interesting and strategically significant; and help determine the best way to tell and deliver those stories to our many publics. He will also assist with some of our design and printing efforts. In terms of refinement, Aaron will work closely with Web editors to improve the presentation of their existing content, tailor it to the intended audiences, and address usability issues. Eventually he will also lead training on more advanced aspects of Web management/communications, and digital asset management.

With Aaron's hiring, the COE stands to dramatically improve the quantity and quality of its electronic media, particularly photography and video. If you have a story to tell, or an event with strong visual interest, send a brief summary to Aaron at aaronmon at uoregon.edu<mailto:%20aaronmon at uoregon.edu> and copy me. We won't be able to support every request, but we can't support any event or story we don't know about. We will do our best to balance content between undergraduate and graduate academics, research and outreach, and any variety of stories that underscore this organization's myriad contributions to society, education, and the intellectual capital of the UO. You are all awesome, and we want to shout it from the rooftops.
