coe-staff: Early Childhood CARES remembers Greg Zwettler

Early Childhood CARES establishes fund to honor colleague
Early Childhood CARES, an outreach unit of the College of Education, has started a memorial fund to honor the memory of one of its longtime collaborators, Greg Zwettler. “Greg’s Fund” will establish a pool of emergency resources for families served by Early Childhood CARES, which provides early intervention and early childhood special education to infants, toddlers and preschool age children in Lane County, about half of whom are low-income.

Zwettler, who recently succumbed to cancer, worked for years to advance the organization’s mission with his wife, Judy Newman, who is still its co-director (with Val Close). He taught special education in middle and high school and often continued to work with students who had their start at Early Childhood CARES, still working to make a difference for them as they matured and found their way in the world.

The fund was made possible through an initial gift from Jane Squires, a professor in the Special Education and Clinical Sciences department.
