coe-staff: SPICE Volunteers Needed!!

The Science Program to Inspire Creativity and Excellence (SPICE) is an informal science outreach program for middle school girls in Lane county. SPICE needs instructors for Science Fair Workshops in area schools and general outreach activities.
We have a small number of paid positions* as well as for-credit internships** and volunteer positions (more information below).
SPICE instructors need to be: Enthusiastic about science Eager to work with K-12 school aged children
Preferred qualifications for applicants: Prior work with school age children Prior science outreach experience Strong interest in diversity

Number of Positions: 10-15
Hours Per Week: 2-15
Salary: $10/hr
Start Date: Beginning of Spring Term

*Paid positions are for strong candidates with experience and strong commitment to STEM outreach.

** Internships:

Did you know that you can get college credit for volunteering with SPICE?  Next term we'll be holding our science and invention fair workshops in area schools and we'll need lots of instructors and mentors.   The Service Learning Program in the College of Education is offering for credit seminars and practicum in service learning next term and you can volunteer for SPICE for practicum credits.  Three classes in particular might be of interest to you:

Seminar in K-12 Education (with associated practicum) CRN 33049/33080
Seminar in Mentoring in the Community  (with associated practicum) CRN 33068/37975
Seminar in Service Learning Theory  (with associated practicum) CRN 33064/33081
