If you have guests from other higher education institutions or visit other institutions and would like to have wireless access this message will appeal to you. Basically, the UO joined eduroam consortium will will allow a guest to attach to wireless services while at a member eduroam consortium member institution. The second paragraph has the directions for attaching and a web link that you may want to mark on your laptop/ipad/smart phone if you are traveling.
You can also sponsor guest wireless access for guests on campus by going to:
http://it.uoregon.edu/network-guest-access
And one last item, we have one more power testing night tonight from 10 pm to Friday morning at 7 am. I will be shutting our servers down again during that time period.

All-
As you may have noticed, Network and Telecom Services has begun broadcasting a new SSID across campus. This wireless network is called ‘eduroam’, and it marks the beginning of the University of Oregon’s participation in the eduroam consortium. In future, if you see the eduroam network being broadcast in another location, you’ll be able to connect using your username and password. It will also work for visiting faculty and staff, as long as their organization is also participating. The eduroam network is offered throughout 36 European countries, 6 Asia-Pacific countries, the United States, and Canada. With hundreds of thousands of wireless access points sharing a common SSID, it acts as one large, world-wide hotspot. For more information about the network itself, see: https://it.uoregon.edu/node/3323
For PCs, the installation procedure is very similar to the installation of UO Secure – i.e., you will not be able to connect to the network directly, you’ll need to visitwireless.uoregon.edu<http://wireless.uoregon.edu> and allow the website to install the profile – but you will select the eduroam profile once the XpressConnect application starts. For OSX, connecting will be as simple as selecting the network and entering your username and password. For further information about connecting to the eduroam network, please see our documentation:https://it.uoregon.edu/node/3325
For questions regarding the new network, its function, or for help troubleshooting connection difficulties, please contact the Help Desk (helpdesk at uoregon.edu<mailto:helpdesk at uoregon.edu>, 541-346-4357).
