The comment period for the COE CTF and TTF promotion policies is now open. The initial comment period will remain open through Monday, January 19th. Following this comment period, any relevant changes resulting from faculty comments will be made and summarized prior to dean review and faculty vote.

Summary:
The updated policies seek to clarify expectations for promotion and performance within the relevant faculty groups in the College of Education (COE). The current policy recommendations are intended to provide clarity, specificity, and consistency with the current CBA. Following the approval of these policies, additional implementation guidance will be developed and distributed for input.

Summary of changes:

  *   Maintains two separate policies (one for Career and one for TT,) but with more detail and specificity of criteria
  *   Aligns with current CBA
  *   Provides expansive and inclusive criteria recognizing the wide range of scholarly approaches and research methods present in the college
  *   Develops criteria for Service and Teaching consistent with COE policies adopted in AY 24/25
  *   Language and format are derived from a template that aligns with the CBA and guidance from OtP
  *   Development of a COE-specific Teaching Evaluation Rubric (also open for comment) [Note: the final rubric will be linked as a URL within the final policy]
  *   Updated Career Track Faculty (CTF) Classification and Rank Criteria Matrix to align with current CBA

The surveys allow for faculty to comment on individual sections of each policy and / or for overall comments. From the two survey-links provided below, please access the appropriate survey according to your faculty rank or position and submit any comments related to the draft policies and related materials (attached to this email). Certain roles such as Department Heads and Unit Heads may elect to comment on both policies.

In your review of the attached materials a few items to note:
1. Black font in the policies represents original template language. Blue font is the modified/modifiable text open for review. Please target your feedback on the blue font.
2. The committee is working with templates that were provided by the Office of the Provost (OtP). The documents have been saved as PDFs to preserve formatting as much as possible. There are some areas where numbering needs to be corrected, those formatting issues will be addressed by OtP.

As indicated above, comments submitted via this survey will be compiled and reviewed by the committee and adjustments made (as appropriate) to the policies prior to submitting them for faculty review and vote. Any adjustments made to the policies as a result of the comment period will be summarized prior to the vote.

The dean's office has had and will continue to have iterative opportunities to review the draft and will be offered a full review opportunity after the comments have been incorporated. Any changes made based on dean's office review and OtP review will be summarized prior to faculty vote.

Dear COE faculty,

As you know, this past Fall, the Promotion and Review Policy Committees for Career and Tenure Track faculty, have been meeting regularly to review and update the College of Education promotional policies in alignment with the current CBA and via guidance from Office of the Provost templates.

The committees have timed their development to ensure opportunity for at least two rounds of COE faculty review and feedback prior to the vote.

Given that we hope to distribute the first drafts for review and feedback during the first week of Winter quarter, we wanted to let you know now, to be on the lookout for that shortly after you return from break.

I offer my gratitude to the committee for their thoughtful and conscientious review of the policies over the Fall quarter. We look forward to sharing their work with you in the Winter.
