Dear COE faculty,
This message is directed towards Tenure Track (TTF) and Career Faculty (CF) in Academic Departments.
On March 1st, departments will begin the 2024-2025 workload process to determine instructional coverage for the upcoming year and to assist and support faculty in navigating their broader workload considerations (course reductions for TTF, course releases for approved service, service activities, research buyouts etc.). This year core faculty members will once again receive an individualized Workload tracking form (template attached for information only) to assist in mapping out the year ahead.
In the coming days you will receive an email from Karen Kossow, CBSO HR, with a link that provides you with access to the folder containing your Workload tracking forms. This folder will include any form you completed last year when this process began. Between March 1st and March 15th, faculty are asked to complete the 2024 - 2025 form to the best of their knowledge to assist your department head in engaging in the department wide workload and instructional planning process. Please complete the form by March 15th in the shared folder. Department heads will access materials from the folder after March 15th to begin developing the departmentwide schedule. Departments will provide their own internal timelines regarding next steps and communication with faculty about the completed instructional assignments. Completed assignments will be submitted to the COE on June 1st.
Workload tracking forms are intended to allow COE instructional faculty to indicate their preferred / intended instructional activities as well as their research, service, and buyout intentions for the upcoming year based on current or historical information. These workload tracking forms are living documents that capture some of the specifics of the workload conversations faculty have with department heads each year. Your department head will provide additional information about the process that works best by department. In some cases, the "conversation" may take place wholly by documentation exchange and email, whereas other exchanges may be more extended.
Once workload tracking forms are completed in the folders (after March 15th), the department head will use faculty's instructional preferences and suggestions in combination with the department's programmatic instructional needs to assist in informing their larger decision-making process for the 2024 - 2025 academic year. The instructional activities that faculty submit on the Workload tracking form are suggestions that will guide the department, but that are subject to change based on the broader needs and resources across a department or within a program.
