coe-fac: Spring Faculty Performance Evaluations

Good afternoon,

This week the College of Education will begin the spring faculty performance evaluation process.

Like last year, the evaluation process and timeline will be shared with Department Heads and Unit Directors and a communication will be sent directly to each faculty member who requires a review in the spring.  Faculty scheduled for a performance evaluation this spring will receive an email in early February with information about the performance evaluation process and timeline.

The current UA/UO CBA has several significant changes in Article 19: Career Review and Promotion<https://hr.uoregon.edu/united-academics-contract-information#19>
The most significant change is the frequency of career research evaluations. As noted within the CBA:


  *   Career research faculty will have a performance review annually, which will also serve as the basis for distributions if a merit pool is agreed to in Article 26

Last year the COE aligned the timing of performance reviews with the schedule posted on the Office of the Provost's website.  https://provost.uoregon.edu/career-faculty-evaluation  All career faculty who had been in their position 3 years or more moved to a triennial review schedule.  Now that the new contract is ratified, the COE will revert to reviewing research faculty annually in order to align with the current CBA.

Additional Evaluation Schedules:
Career Instructional Faculty are reviewed each year for the first three years of employment and then move to a triennial review, starting in year 6.  The period of review for all faculty will still be January - December, but a triennial review will review activities and performance over the span of the 3 prior calendar years.

Pro tem faculty will continue to be reviewed annually, including ongoing pro tem faculty. Ongoing pro tem faculty are reviewed once every 3 years after the position has been designated as ongoing.

Untenured (tenure track) faculty will be reviewed annually, with the exception of the year in which they receive a mid-tenure review.

Tenured Faculty will receive 3- and 6-year post tenure reviews.
