Dear Colleagues,
I have arranged with the Teaching Engagement Program and UO Online to offer a Remote Teaching Overview workshop for College of Education faculty Monday, September 14, 3-4:30pm. Zoom link: https://uoregon.zoom.us/j/92964415921<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/uoregon.zoom.us/j/92964415921__;!!C5qS4YX3!QYDP8qfwAeyrkuONCZUTaLgwimtBewbVRLE718XwIo_sdCOnAehQk-F3o25ynLHqsQ$> (The session will be recorded for colleagues with conflicting commitments.)
This will be a chance for faculty to come together to learn from our collective experiences as we and our students make the most of the remote format. In addition to drawing on your own interests and approaches, the session will highlight:
* Academic Council policies and guidance;
* Getting more from Zoom and Canvas;
* Engaging and assessing remote students;
* Building class community;
* Supporting students in crisis—with the help of the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling Center, and UESS.
The spring 2020 academic emergency has passed, and I’m grateful to every instructor who fulfilled the teaching mission of the university despite extraordinarily difficult circumstances. Our expectations for teaching will be high in coming year when UO’s recovery and thriving depend even more than ever on high-quality, engaged teaching. The Academic Council’s “Expectations in Effect for Fall 2020<https://provost.uoregon.edu/sites/provost2.uoregon.edu/files/academic_council_expectations_in_effect_for_fall_2020_fjw_lr_1.pdf>” clarifies these expectations. I hope you can attend this session and, in particular, am asking that new faculty and faculty who did not teach remotely in the spring attend. I strongly encourage any faculty member feeling trepidation about fall remote teaching to attend as well.
Please let me know if you plan to attend using this RSVP form<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6lOwRzDetMMg6BD__;!!C5qS4YX3!QYDP8qfwAeyrkuONCZUTaLgwimtBewbVRLE718XwIo_sdCOnAehQk-F3o24UGQOuQw$>.
Please also consider applying to be a fellow in the stipended Teaching Leaders group<https://blogs.uoregon.edu/keepteaching/2020/08/25/call-for-letters-of-interest-teaching-advisors-cait/> being formed by the Office of the Provost: they seek at least one representative from the College of Education.
Finally, I encourage you to explore these valuable resources: the Remote Course Builder site<https://blogs.uoregon.edu/keepteaching/remote-builder/> and the Teaching in Turbulent Times Toolkit<https://blogs.uoregon.edu/keepteaching/teaching-in-turbulent-times-toolkit/>—they may be useful point of reference for you in the days and weeks ahead.
Best,
