Dear Faculty,
The work of the Children's Equity Project (CEP) has gained some renewed momentum following the break and, as promised, we wanted to provide you with a brief update as we begin to engage in the partnership in earnest. As Kent and I consider the possible points of intersection for this work with our college, it was helpful for us to learn that the CEP defines equity in terms of the following 5 lenses for the purpose of managing the potentially broad scope the work:
* Discipline (especially exclusionary practices in discipline and mental health)
* Language (especially dual language)
* Inclusion (of students with disabilities)
* Tribal needs and causes
* Maternal and child health track (CEP has a significant focus on birth to early elementary school aged children.)
Also, we confirmed that the objective of the partnership is to harness the skillset and capacity of experts in national institutions and across like projects towards impacting two predominant areas:
* Data and research and
* Policy
While they have multiple projects underway, the CEP recently invited the UO to participate in two upcoming projects.
* A response to the White House's recent School Safety Report
* The development of a report on the State of Equity in the nation (in the 5 areas)
We plan to reach out to those who have already expressed interest in the coming days (thank you!). However, we will continue to provide occasional and more targeted updates as the work takes shape and takes on a predictable format. We may also take the liberty of reaching out with tentative invitations to specific faculty if we think there may be points of synergy that make sense with your work as we understand it. Again, please feel free to reach out to Kent or I with questions.
Best,
Dianna

Subject: coe-fac: Children's Equity Project Partnership
Dear Faculty,
As part of our ongoing activities related to the academic and practical pursuits of equity in our college, I am pleased to share that we recently agreed to partner with the Children's Equity Project (CEP), a multi-university initiative out of the Arizona State University led by Dr. Shantel Meek. CEP is working on designing and carrying out a cohesive and comprehensive national equity agenda across early childhood research, policy, and practice and has invited universities with evidence of strong research and practical successes in the area of early childhood research, policy, and practice to serve as part of their decision-making and action oriented coalition.
While the partnership is based in our college's equity work and goals, we already see potential synergies with our existing research and academic faculty and would like to make you aware of the potential for developments and opportunities for our extended faculty working in these areas.
See the document attached for additional information. Kent McIntosh and myself will be serving as primary contacts and liaisons for this work and we are excited to expand this partnership within the college. We will provide you with updates as we understand more about the scope of the CEP project, however, please feel free to contact either of us for more information or questions.
Best,
Dianna
