Faculty,

Hope 2016 is off to a good start for you. This email will update you to the curriculum happenings during the Fall term and expectations for Winter.

Course and Program Review for Fall 2016

* Important dates and Curriculum Committee Membership

*         COE Curriculum Resources

*         Program Review

*         Course Review
Important Dates and COE Curriculum Committee
Your committee representatives are listed below. I strongly recommend that you keep them informed of any course or program modifications or additions.

* EMPL: Keith Zvoch, Jo Smith

* EDST: Audrey Lucero, Jeanne Hall

* SPECS: Chris Murray, Angie Whalen

*         CPHS: Deanna Linville-Knobelspiesse, Kathy Moxley-South
The COE Curriculum Resources are available on the COE Governance page: https://coedocs.uoregon.edu/display/governance/COE+Governance+and+Policies

On this site you will find such things as:

*         Current syllabi information

*         Approved COE Curriculum policy

*         EDUC courses

* Calendars of COE program and course process
There are a number of forms and policies that people often look for but have difficulty finding. I have temporarily made a section on the Governance page titles "Forms and Policies" that has some of these. If there are others we should add let Mercedes know (mercedr at uoregon.edu<mailto:mercedr at uoregon.edu>) and we will try and locate and link it.

Course and Program Review for Fall 2016

Course Review. The UO is still using CourseLeaf. All courses can be reviewed throughout the year through CourseLeaf Management System (https://nextcatalog.uoregon.edu/courseadmin/).

Six courses associated with the Lead minor were reviewed for comment and will come for vote along with the program later in Fall term. Revised courses from EMPL DEd will be reviewed and voted on this fall as well.

The due date for course submissions for review this Fall are October 21. I do expect to see the Foundations of Educational Research course for review this Fall. You can check out any of the dates on the calendar in the Curriculum Resources website mentioned above.

Due to the visibility of comments and voting we will continue to use a Qualtrics system for voting.

Program Review. Three programs will be reviewed this fall. Three are Expedited: Prevention Science MS and PhD Programs (change in number of credits for the program) and EMPL DEd Program (request to offer the program outside of Oregon); CPSY PhD program (change in number of credits for the program). These will be shared during the comment period, but because these are Expedited Programs, they will only be voted on by the COE Curriculum Committee.

The DEd Program also has a series of courses that will need to be voted on. These are revisions of the courses in their current DEd program, and thus will be the courses for the expanded program. As you are aware, when a program moves to the council, they request that any experimental courses (e.g. 410, 510, 610) go through the process of course approval.

One program, EMPL minor, will come through as a Full Review. First, you will see it and be allowed to comment. Then after a review by the COE Curriculum Committee, it will come for a COE faculty vote and the six affiliated courses (commented on last spring) will be voted on as well.

There is work underway on a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Program. This will be a certificate program and it is anticipated it will be submitted during the winter timeline.

Notification about commenting and voting on curriculum will occur through email as the CourseLeaf Management System for Programs is not ready to be released. Again, remember that you share comments with a Committee Member from your department but you vote through a Qualtrics survey that will be sent via email.

Teacher Engagement Program (Aka Teacher Effectiveness Program)
The TEP program has redesigned their website and added many resources so I recommend you take a look. http://tep.uoregon.edu/

Common Read
UO's Common Read this year is Ta-Nehisi Coates - Between the World and Me. There is a website with reading resources, campus resources and teaching resources. http://commonreading.uoregon.edu/current-book-btwam/

Thanks for all the work by faculty and staff to improve our programs and courses. If you have curriculum questions, check in with your Program Director, Department Head, COE Curriculum Committee representative or schedule a time to meet with me if necessary.
