Looking Ahead to Fall 2016
CourseLeaf for Programs
This year we used CourseLeaf as the course management system. Next year a new CourseLeaf program for management of programs will be used. As we decided with the system for courses we will comment and vote using the Qualtrics system though all documentation will be in CourseLeaf. I have seen the prototype and it operates similar to the course management system. I will work this summer to get a tip sheet together as we did for course system and host a training at beginning of the fall term.
Course/Program dates for Fall term: I am in the process of setting these with the COE Curriculum Committee once we have the UOCC dates - probably due end of October
New programs in Fall: Early Fall watch for the new minor in Leadership from EMPL. Remember all new programs must have the synopsis approved by the Department Head Council before going forward with a full proposal. See flow chart at back of the new Curriculum Policy.
The COE Curriculum Committee representatives are listed below. I strongly recommend that you keep them informed of any course or program modifications or additions. Welcome to Keith Zvoch and Audrey Lucero.
o EMPL: Keith Zvoch, Jo Smith
o EDST: Audrey Lucero, Jeanne Hall
o SPECS: Chris Murray, Angie Whalen
o CPHS: Deanna Linville-Knobelspiesse, Kathy Moxley-South
The COE Curriculum resources are available at the Governance page (see bottom of the COE website) https://coedocs.uoregon.edu/display/governance/Curriculum+Review+Policies. I will be updating and rearranging based on feedback I have received already this year.
Please be sure to use the most current syllabi information when preparing your courses. I have not received any updates from UO so waiting to update until mid-July. Will post and send email when it is completed.
Philosophical Foundations of Educational Research Course Workgroup (Robert Horner, Kent McIntosh, Jerry Rosiek, Lisa Mazzei Elizabeth Skowron, Atika Khurana, Michael Bullis, Gina Biancarosa, chair) has identified the content for the course. They will begin the COE/UO approval process in the fall. This course is the college wide required course for all doctoral students.
EDUC Courses: The course schedule and instructors will be available on the Curriculum Resources webpage. I am in the process of building a 3 year timetable. All current syllabi are available in PubDocs/EDUC syllabi. We will update this by the end of each term.
It was discussed at the department head meeting and decided that EDUC Philosophical Foundations of Educational Research will not be offered in 2016-2017. This is still a required course for incoming PhD students so programs should plan on new students taking this required course in 2017-2018. It will be offered each Fall (not winter) and this resulted in changes to the terms the Qual classes are offered. New times are below.
2017-2018
Fall 2017: EDUC 616 Phil Found 1200-150 W/F
Winter 2018: EDUC 630 Qual I 1700-2050 W
Spring 2018: EDUC 632 Qual II 1700-2050 W
2018-2019
Fall 2018: EDUC 616 Phil Found 1200-150 W/F
EDUC 634 Qual III 1700-2050 W
Winter 2019: EDUC 630 Qual I 1700-2050 W

(Qual V EDST course)
Curriculum Policy. The COE Curriculum Committee has revised the current COE policy and procedures. The policy has been circulated and approved by the faculty June 21, 2016. I anticipate there will be some adjustments over the next year as the UO updates policies such as online courses and programs.
Thanks for all the work of faculty to improve our programs and courses. If you have curriculum questions check in with your Program Director, Department Head, COE Curriculum Committee representative or myself.
Enjoy your summer.
