coe-fac: COE Merit Review Policy Ratified

Dear COE:
Thank you for your valuable work in developing the COE faculty merit review policy.  The final vote for ratification of the policy was 34 votes in favor and 15 votes against.
The vote was enough of a margin to move the document forward to the Provost for review and approval. That said, the 15 "no" votes reflect dissatisfaction among some faculty concerning the annual review template distributed alongside the merit review policy.  At issue are concerns that the template does not adequately represent student supervisor job duties and contributions.
To address these concerns, department heads have committed to developing specific review templates for faculty in student supervisor roles to use as part of their performance evaluations.  Some department heads already have implemented this or are in the process of doing so, so please consult with them directly with questions or to offer your input.  I expect to receive electronic copies of the materials being used in this way from the department heads by June 2 to add to our policy and process library.
This summer we will launch the next phase of CBA policy development, addressing the assignment of professional responsibilities and the management of summer session. Thank you for the hard work and effort you have put into developing the college's policies, both this past year and the work that lies ahead. This task is a collective effort and your contributions are much appreciated.
