Dear CAS Faculty and Staff,

I am very pleased to introduce you to four of CAS’s new Associate Directors, Academic Support. They are already hard at work managing their respective ASUs<https://cassharedservices.uoregon.edu/asu/>, and would like to share a little about themselves with you all. Please read on to learn more about each associate director on my team, and how to contact them.

Sincerely,
Teri Rowe
Senior Director, Academic Support

ASU 1 – Lisa Ross

Lisa has been with the UO for 22 years. She most recently served as the Finance and Administration Manager for the departments of East Asian Languages & Literatures, Romance Languages and German/Scandinavian. Prior to that, she was the Department Manager for East Asian Languages & Literatures. She holds an accounting degree from the UO, so that makes her a double duck!

Lisa spent the last year not only managing the language departments, but also helping to set up the framework for the new School of Global Studies and Languages. She is grateful for the opportunity to work on building GSL from an interesting idea to a fully functioning school. She enjoys working with the diverse population of students and faculty associated with the new school and looks forward to helping them navigate the exciting opportunities made available to them through GSL.

While not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two teenage sons and her super cute rescue dog. They all can be found enjoying sports, live music and the great outdoors.

Lisa’s email is lgillis at uoregon.edu<mailto:lgillis at uoregon.edu>.

ASU 2 – Sheila Keen

After graduating from North Carolina State University with a BA in Political Science and minor in Economics, Sheila became a manager with the Army Air Force Exchange, serving in Ft. Rucker, AL; Ft. Benning, GA; and Dallas, TX.

Sheila married her husband 29 years ago, and he served in Army Special Operations and subsequently in the Nursing Corp for 28 years. After living in Ft. Lewis, WA; Okinawa, Japan; Ft. Bragg, NC; and Landstuhl, Germany, Sheila and her husband moved back to his childhood home: Springfield, Oregon. They have three children, including one still at home and a junior in high school.

While raising her children, Sheila held down several managerial positions and earned her MA in Public Administration. Her first role in higher education was in Business Affairs for Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC, where she worked for eight years until accepting the Department Manager position with the Department of Psychology at the UO three years ago.

Sheila has supervised a multitude of employees, from hourly staff in retail positions to supervisory staff in more technical positions. Ultimately, Sheila believes that all employees must feel valued, respected, and supported by their administration. Sheila also strives to develop a collegial relationship between faculty and staff, working as a team to offer the best education and experience to our students. In this role, she is excited to head the transition to shared services for the departments of Economics, General Social Science, Political Science and Sociology in ASU 2.

Sheila’s email is shkeen at uoregon.edu<mailto:shkeen at uoregon.edu>.

ASU 6 – Shelley Elliott

Shelley Elliott has been with the University of Oregon for over 25 years. After holding progressively senior positions in the College of Education, Department of Philosophy, College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, and the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, she accepted the manager position in the Department of Biology in 2004. In 2014, she added the General Science Program (now the Multidisciplinary Science Program) to her portfolio and has since added the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry as well.

Shelley has an extensive record of developing and maintaining strong, functional business relationships with stakeholders, an excellent understanding and alignment of unit priorities with institutional goals, and a commitment to converting ideas and objectives into actions. She is looking forward to bringing her leadership, professionalism, and experience to the Academic Support Unit serving Biology, Chemistry, Multidisciplinary Science Program, and Physics.

ASU 8 – Danielle McCarville

Danielle has been working with the University of Oregon since 2018 as the Department Manager for Computer and Information Science. Prior to that she worked for the University of Kansas in different capacities, including within Shared Services, for six years.

In her 17 years of working in higher education, Danielle has gained a broad spectrum of experience since she began her career as a student worker in her home department of Communications at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Danielle looks forward to meeting the challenge of overseeing Math, Computer Science, and the Data Science Initiative in this new structure.
