Dear CAS colleagues,

You recently received the email below asking you to fill out a survey regarding your perception of CAS’ resilience as a college. Kaylene Sampson of Resilient Organisations Ltd sent this email on my behalf, so although it’s an unfamiliar email address I want to assure you it’s a credible survey and link. There’s more information about this project in the email below, but if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Andrew

College of Arts and Sciences, University of Oregon Resilience Benchmarking Survey

Dear Lisa

I am sending this personal request to ask that you take 10 minutes to fill out a survey – a survey that I believe will help us plan collectively for the future of the entire college. In this time of leadership transition and potential structural changes, it is particularly important that we understand our strengths and weaknesses so that any future changes retain the good and address the areas where improvement can be achieved. I care about the future of this college; this is one way in which every employee in the college can contribute to strengthening that future.

How resilient is the College of Arts and Sciences at UO?
For CAS to best answer this question, I think it is important to assess the views of CAS employees at every level. We are working with André Le Duc, Chief Resilience Officer for the UO, and Resilient Organisations Ltd. to conduct an independent resilience assessment and produce recommendations for improving CAS’ capacity to handle unanticipated “shocks” to our college. We will not focus on any one shock (e.g. a flu outbreak, an earthquake, a GTFF strike, a recession, etc.), but rather, will be looking at indicators of our capacity to adapt in the face of unanticipated events. Using the Resilient Organisations' Benchmark Resilience Tool to identify our current resilience strengths and weaknesses, we will create a baseline to track changes over time.

What are you asking me to do?
You are invited to give your opinions. Questions focus on CAS organization and culture, our leadership at unit, divisional and dean’s office levels, and the effectiveness and flexibility of our planning and practices. We will also ask for some basic information about your roles and responsibilities so we can understand perspectives, strengths and needs in different portions of the college, which will help us focus on efforts to improve.

How long will the survey take?
The survey will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes of your time. You may stop at any time and come back to the survey later.

Can I voice my opinion in confidence?
Your feedback is anonymous. Your information will only be seen by Resilient Organisations Ltd. staff (there are no UO employees on this staff). Findings will be reported at an aggregate level and individual responses will not be provided to either the UO or CAS. By completing the questionnaire, you are consenting to participate in the project and the publication of the results of the project. The anonymised results of this survey may be used for research purposes.

Where can I get further information?
If you would like further information, please email the Resilient Organisations Ltd. Senior Researcher Kaylene Sampson at kaylene.sampson at resorgs.org.nz<mailto:kaylene.sampson at resorgs.org.nz>. Chief Resilience Officer and AVP for Safety and Risk Services, André Le Duc, is the primary UO contact. He may be reached at leduc at uoregon.edu<mailto:leduc at uoregon.edu>.
