Hello UO Travelers and Travel Delegates,
The Travel Office received a message from Direct Travel, one of UO’s contract travel agencies today regarding a Visa requirement change for travelers planning to visit Brazil with an arrival after January 9, 2024. Please see the email below for further information.
While the message below is specific to travel to Brazil, it is a good reminder that it is important to review Visa requirements anytime someone is planning international travel. For information on visa requirements, the following are a couple of helpful links https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages.html and https://www.handyvisas.com/visa-requirements/ .
Safe travels!

* Academic research, scientific cooperation, academic extension programs, visiting professors
* Business
* Journalistic coverage, news reporting, or filming
* Non-corporate events (conferences, seminars, congresses, etc.)
* Study, internship
* Tourism and Transit

FAQs & Requirements
If I am a citizen of Australia, Canada or the United States traveling to Brazil, and my flight departs on Tuesday, January 9th, but arrives in Brazil on Wednesday, January 10th, will a visa be required?
YES, a visa is required for travelers arriving in Brazil on or after, Wednesday, January 10th.
Will my passport need to be sent to the Brazil embassy or consulate?
No, the visas are electronic.
What is the processing window for Brazil visa applications?
At least five business days should be allowed, however, due to the extremely high demand generated by this change in requirements, processing times in Q1 2024 have been taking up to two full weeks. Processing times may vary based on the Brazil Embassy/Consulate being able to process larger volume of requests. Incomplete applications or inadequate materials will also delay processing. Required documentation is listed below.
What are the specific requirements?
For specific requirements, we recommend contacting out Passport and Visa Partner, CIBT. However, general requirements include:
* Valid Passport: Original passport signed by the applicant, with at least two contiguous blank pages left. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes. Your passport must be in good condition to be accepted as a valid document. It must not be torn, wet, damp, stained, cut, punctured, excessively dirty, etc.
* Photo: Provide a printed photo (2x2 inches) with your application along with the upload of a digital copy of your photo, signature, and other supporting documents to your application process. Please note that the upload and a hard copy of your photo are mandatory. Photos must also be printed on photo-quality paper. The photo quality paper can be either matte or glossy on a white background.
* Round trip-ticket: Present a hard copy of the round-trip-ticket or e-ticket bearing the applicant's name; or signed letter from the airline or travel agent, on their letterhead, with the itinerary, the passengers' full names, flight number or cruise information, and dates of arrival and departure from Brazil.
* For airline employees and their dependents: a copy of their airline I.D. card and a letter from the airline, on company letterhead, with the itinerary.
* Proof of financial capacity: It is necessary to prove the financial support of the applicant during the time he/she remains in Brazil, showing at least US$2,000.00 for travel
* Fee: The government of Brazil fees are $80.90 USD. CIBT will include their processing fees.
Why is an eVisa now required?
Brazil previously required a visa for nationals of many countries including Australia, Canada, and the United States. In an effort to boost tourism, a few years ago, Brazil relaxed a visa requirement for citizens of several countries to enter Brazil. The United States, Canada and Australia have not responded with reciprocal measures.
