Dear Travel Coordinators and Motor Pool Contacts:
As part of an effort by the City of Springfield to revitalize Glenwood<http://www.springfield-or.gov/city/development-public-works/glenwood-refinement-plan/>, the area along Franklin Boulevard located between I-5 and Springfield's downtown, the city has approached the University of Oregon (UO) with plans for a community development project. The project would impact the university-owned property that is currently the location of the motor pool operated by Oregon State University, which serves the UO and other local agencies. This property, along with two adjacent non-UO properties, would become the site of a multi-use indoor track facility<https://www.kezi.com/content/news/Possible-new-indoor-track-in-Springfield-513275621.html> that will serve the local community.
While the construction of such a project would not interfere with the motor pool's operations until 2022, we are interested evaluating the university's current vehicle rental needs and assessing the viability of other models as we transition away from the current operation. OSU Transportation Services has been and continues to be an excellent partner and we look forward to working with them - and with our departments who use the motor pool - throughout this process.
One important first step is to gather input from UO employees who manage their department's use of motor pool vehicles. You are receiving this message because you are your department's travel coordinator and/or your department accessed the motor pool at least once in the last two fiscal years. (Please forgive any duplicate messages.) We are developing a brief survey to get this process started and will send that to you soon.
We will also be putting together an advisory group of representatives from departments with high motor pool use, and will soon be in touch to set up a meeting of this group. To minimize scheduling challenges, we need to keep the advisory group manageably sized. That said, if you have a particular interest in participating, please email Paula Ellison, Assistant Director of Transportation Services, at pellison at uoregon.edu<mailto:pellison at uoregon.edu>.
Thank you for your help with this effort.
David
