Winter Storm May Disrupt Travel - Central USA
A strong winter storm is forecast through February 3, 2016 and is expected to bring significant snowfall.
The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories for the central US. Blizzard watches and warnings have also been issued for north central Kansas, eastern Nebraska, extreme southeastern South Dakota, northwestern Iowa, and southern Minnesota.
The developing area of low pressure will move from the Southern Rockies to the Central Plains on Monday. As it does, it will bring strong winds and heavy snow to the Central Plains, Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region—including parts of south-central Ontario, Canada.
Several feet of snow is forecast for the mountains of Utah and Colorado today. In the higher elevations, 1 to 2 feet of snow is expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Up to a foot of snow/blowing and drifting snow is expected in sections of Nebraska across northern Iowa and southern Minnesota into Wisconsin and Upper Michigan through Tuesday night.
For more information including a map of the affected areas, visit the National Weather Service website<http://www.weather.gov/>.
Advice
Travelers should monitor the situation. Flight, ground transportation, and rail service delays and cancellations can be expected in the affected areas; travelers should reconfirm all travel arrangements. Some air carriers may implement travel waivers allowing affected ticketed travelers to make voluntary changes.
