Message on behalf of Dean Gabe Paquette ~
Dear Colleagues:
The CHC is accepting applications from faculty—tenured, tenure-track, and career—from across campus to become Faculty-in-Residence. The CHC has transitioned to a new faculty model. New appointments are made through multi-year Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with faculty based in other units. This new model empowers the CHC to offer an array of courses that reflects the richness, range, and diversity of the entire university’s faculty. In the past two years, we have welcomed eight new faculty-in-residence appointments to the CHC (six from the College of Arts and Sciences, one from the School of Music and Dance, and one from the School of Law). As a result, the CHC is becoming the university’s honors college in all senses.
Tenured or tenure-track faculty commit to potentially renewable four- or eight-year terms. Career faculty also commit to four- or eight-year terms, contingent on the regular contract renewal process. Faculty-in-Residence are expected to devote at least half of their teaching and service to the CHC. They teach and advise CHC students, serve on multiple CHC faculty committees, and contribute meaningfully to the CHC community. Applicants are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, defined by the Provost’s Teaching Engagement Program (TEP) as inclusive, engaged, and research-led<https://tep.uoregon.edu/teaching-excellence>.
The precise allocation of teaching and service to the CHC will be arranged via a MOU between the faculty member, the CHC, and the faculty member’s home unit. New Faculty-in-Residence may begin their appointments in fall 2020 or winter 2021. Please follow these links for the application<https://forms.uoregon.edu/node/add/chc-fra> and additional information<https://honors.uoregon.edu/faculty-residence-call-applications>. The review of applications will begin on December 2, 2019.
Please contact the CHC Dean’s Office at chcdeansoffice at uoregon.edu<mailto:chcdeansoffice at uoregon.edu> or 541-346-4749 with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Gabe
Gabe Paquette, Dean
