Subject: transparency and consultation in shared governance
Dear Senators,
Apologies for adding to your inbox--I sent out the earlier email to Pedro in haste and I wanted to resend a sharper, cleaner version to the senators (below) for the record to be distributed.
All Best,
David
Dear Senators,
It has recently come to my attention that the senate president has formed a secret, ad hoc committee the the administration claims to have been consulting regarding the elimination of departments and programs. My department head was never consulted by this committee and has been told that his unit would likely be eliminated.
The formation of a secret committee which department heads and faculty was unaware seems to me the opposite of transparent consultation. Rather, it reflects an attempt to keep the senate, the department heads, and the faculty uninformed and unable to contribute to decisions that would dictate the future of CAS.
I urge you to act to intervene in this irregular use of the faculty senate.
Sincerely,
David Hollenberg
