Dear Senators,
As a member of TFAB, I wanted to clarify how the tuition and mandatory fee governance works. TFAB provides an analysis of and summary of proposed Tuition and mandatory fees including changes to President Schill. President Schill determines what he would like to propose utilizing our work. His proposals are made available to students and other interested parties and he hosts a forum on the changes.
The UO Board of Trustees discusses and approves any changes. If the combined increase in tuition and mandatory fees is more than 5%, then the proposals go to the HECC.
My understanding is the incidental fee which is set by the ASUO and is not part of the TFAB process is presented by ASUO to the UO Board of Trustees for approval. No automatic review of the fee is required by the HECC regardless of the size. If the UO Board of Trustees does not approve of ASUO’s proposal then the ASUO can appeal to the HECC.
I have copied Jamie Moffit and Kevin Marbury, co-chairs of TFAB here. I ask them to correct any inaccuracies.
I hope this is helpful.
Best
Robin Clement

Dear Senators,
I’m not sure everyone is aware, but the mandatory fees that are assessed each year for tuition are not subject to approval from HECC. Meaning that these fees can continue to increase each year without approval from the Oregon Legislative Body.
This was something that caught my attention, and wanted to let everyone know that this type of fee can be increased at will without oversight from outside governing bodies.

Dear Senators -
I went to the ASUO townhall last night on their decision to cancel their $1.7M contract with the athletics department, after meeting with some ASUO Senators about it.
At the town hall the students discussed their decision and the UO administration’s counter proposal. I also learned that Elliot and Spike had signed on as Senate Pres and VP, as sponsors to an ASUO Senate proposal to accept this counter, which would impose a new mandatory fee on students to the athletic department.
The ASUO Senate met last night after the townhall, and voted to reject this resolution and the counterproposal. My understanding is that their negotiations with the administration continue.
I’m writing because i don’t think the Senate leadership should be encouraging ASUO to accept proposals like this, and certainly not without informing us.
The motion is below.
