[Uosenate] Connect Us to Your Key Faculty/GE Supports for Teaching

Dear University Senators,

As you know from Executive Vice Provost Janet Woodruff-Borden’s email Tuesday titled, “Information on academic continuity,” we will begin receiving weekly emails that provide concrete teaching resources and guidance for this extraordinary Spring, 2020 term.

The Provost’s office has formed a Faculty and GE Supports Group to build out these weekly resource emails and they are asking for our help to identify who are the key support personnel in your home units, including faculty, who are leading teaching workshops and taking initiative in supporting fellow faculty and GE instructors to deliver courses effectively this term. We want to help connect them directly to this Provost’s office-led Faculty and GE Supports Group to support campus-wide efforts.

Please identify these ‘teaching resource’ colleagues in your home units and (1) forward them this invitation below and (2) copy Lee Rumbarger (leona at uoregon.edu<mailto:leona at uoregon.edu>), director UO’s Teaching Engagement Program. The first zoom team meeting begins Thursday 3/26/20.

Thank you,

Elizabeth

Message to forward:

As you’ll have seen in EVP’s Tuesday message, the Office of the Provost’s Faculty and GE Support Group plans to structure part of their ongoing efforts around weekly email Sunday Teaching Updates with timely reminders, resources, and invitations to practical workshops that give participants concrete models to adapt.

We invite colleagues in support roles to Thursday “All Hands” meetings to preview and together revise the upcoming week’s Update and report challenges faculty and GEs are facing in their units—this way we can act as a connected community in this all-hands-on-deck moment for the university, ensuring our efforts amplify rather than duplicate one another and that we’re tuned in to and best able to meet faculty and GE needs across teaching contexts.

When: 30 minute meetings Thursdays at 2pm, beginning THIS WEEK, 3/26
Zoom: https://uoregon.zoom.us/j/723424503

What: Meetings include preview of coming Sunday update and opportunity for participants to raise issues that are arising in their contexts

Who: UO Libraries, Office of the Provost, school and college-based instructional designers and IT professionals, faculty who are offering teaching and technology support workshops in their departments, schools and colleges

Why: To better understand the needs of our teaching community and align our support

Please let Lee Rumbarger, leona at u<mailto:leona at ureog.edu>oregon.edu<http://oregon.edu> know you plan to attend so she can send materials ahead of time.

Thank you for your help.

Subject: Thursday meeting: Connect Us to Your Key Faculty/GE Supports

Dear Colleagues,

We write to ask your help identifying key support personnel in your unit, including faculty who are leading workshops for colleagues who you think would appreciate being linked into central support. Would you send their names or forward them the invitation below and copy Lee Rumbarger (leona at uoregon.edu<mailto:leona at uoregon.edu>)?
