Greetings Senate Colleagues,

Thank you all who are making time to attend the senate meeting this afternoon. Following Incoming President Berkman's remarks and President Schill's address (and Q&A), I plan to introduce a motion to suspend the rules in order to consider the resolution against racism and systemic oppression located here<https://senate.uoregon.edu/2020/06/05/us19-20-18-resolution-against-racism-and-systemic-oppression/>. This must be approved by 2/3rds of membership to proceed to consider the motion itself. Should that carry, I will introduce the motion and our Parliamentarian Sandy Weintraub will moderate the discussion.

Further, below you will find two amendments that have been submitted for consideration to date (text below). Following action on the resolution, we will proceed to the senate vice president election. We have one known candidate at this time: Spike Gildea, Professor of Linguistics, and he will address the senate and take questions before the vote. Finally, we have the Spring Curriculum Report to vote on.

Following those items of business, we will celebrate our colleagues who are being recognized for their outstanding leadership and service to the UO. Your University Senate Mugs arrived to my house about an hour ago, and my sons are now making the rounds to deliver them to you at the locations you designated. Regardless of whether or not yours arrives in time for the meeting, please fill a mug with your favorite beverage to bring to this final meeting's awards ceremony.

We hope many mugs will get to you in time for the meeting this afternoon, but all will be delivered soon. If you have yet to share your contact information with Betina, please send along your address and any instructions for preferred drop-off location.
Thank you,  Elizabeth

Resolution Amendments
Senator Balbuena:

2.4.IV. Advocating both faculty appointments and structural support for teaching and research that centers on the history of racial oppression and the ongoing and pervasive impacts of structural racism, and active support and retention of faculty, staff, and administrators of color;

Senator Davis:
2.10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these will not simply be words on a page but must represent enduring structural change and a willingness to dismantle systems that perpetuate racial inequities to create justice for the Black community. The Senate hereby commits itself to revisiting each action presented in Section II of this resolution by the end of the 2020-2021 Academic Year. This report will be prepared by the Senate Executive Committee and submitted to the Daily Emerald for publication.
