Sent on behalf of the Weaving New Beginnings: Creating Connections Committee:

Dear Colleagues,

In anticipation of the 2018-19 academic year, which brings a larger than ever number of faculty, staff and students of color to the University of Oregon, the Division of Student Life and Division of Equity and Inclusion have collaborated to combine two significant community building and networking events, to meet the expanding needs of members of the University of Oregon.

Please join us for our newly combined Weaving New Beginnings: Creating Connections will on Friday, October 26th, 2018 in the ERB Memorial Union Ballroom from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. There will be food, music and lots of opportunities to network. We also invite all faculty, staff and community members to stay for Happy Hour in Falling Sky (EMU) from 7-9pm, hosted by the Center for Diversity and Community (CoDaC).

Weaving New Beginnings and the Community Connections Reception have both proven to be vital tools in the retention of students, staff, and faculty of underserved and underrepresented communities. Weaving New Beginnings is an initiative created by the ASUO, Student Life, and the Race Task Force, in collaboration with dozens of other departments, to bring faculty and staff of color together with students of color in hopes of promoting networking, education, and mentoring opportunities. In collaborating with the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence, a unit of the Division of Equity and Inclusion, this new program features the Community Connections Reception (CCR). CCR is intended to facilitate relationship building, culturally relevant resource sharing, and connections with various campus community partners - this further proliferates the opportunity to truly make diversity, equity, and inclusion commonplace at the UO.

This remains an important endeavor to welcome all members of the community. It is crucial that we build community so that we have a network of support that will allow all to feel a sense of belonging and support. If you are new to the community, we encourage you to attend this event to allow us to officially welcome you and to meet other colleagues and students. If you are not new to the community, please come out and welcome our new colleagues and students and share your valuable resources and information. This is a great networking opportunity and a great evening is being planned for all.

If you know a new student or faculty/ staff member who may not have received this message, please pass this along to them and bring them along.
