[Uopatos] Scholarship Opportunity - UO IME Becas 2018

Dear students and colleagues,
I hope this e-mail finds you well. I am writing to let you know about a scholarship opportunity in partnership with the Consulate of Mexico in Portland. Please share it with other students and colleagues in your networks.

The University of Oregon is committed to its students' academic success and to providing a world class quality education. In an effort to ensuring access and success, we are announcing the University of Oregon and IME Becas Scholarship Program as a joint effort between the Office of Admissions, the Division of Undergraduate Studies, the Office of International Affairs and the Consulate of Mexico in Portland. The funds are intended to support a diverse student population at the University of Oregon, and provide financial support to students with costs related to attending the university.  Through this partnership, UO-IME Becas seeks to expand the opportunities of higher education among the Mexican population. In this edition, we are offering eight (8) awards of $5,000.00 each.

To qualify for the UO-IME Becas Scholarship, students need to meet the following criteria:

1                 Be enrolled as a student and in good standing at the University of Oregon during academic year 2017-2018.

2                 Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale AND maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA during the current academic year.

a. Preference will be given to Latino / Hispanic students of Mexican-origin, and/or to students who self-identify as "DREAMers" under the United States' Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act.

Attached please find the scholarship application in word and PDF formats with further details. Please use the attached scholarship application form as a cover page and answer the scholarship questions on a separate sheet of paper and send all application materials as one PDF file by the application deadline of Monday, April 16, 2018 by 12:00 Noon.


Application materials including a confidential letter of recommendation from a university faculty member, staff, GTF, community member or church official can be sent electronically in PDF format to Antonio Huerta in the Office of Admissions to, joseh at uoregon.edu<mailto:joseh at uoregon.edu>  or by mail: 1217 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403-1217. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee after April 16 and awardees will be notified immediately thereafter.  Scholarship recipients will be required to see an academic advisor at least twice per term in the Office of Academic Advising.
