[Uopatos] Weaving New Beginnings -- a night to welcome new students/staff and faculty of color---all are welcomed

Queridos colegas,

As we prepare for the start of the 2017-18 academic year we will have the opportunity to welcome a larger than ever number of faculty, staff and students of color to the University of Oregon. One of our first opportunities to do so will be the Weaving New Beginnings<https://calendar.uoregon.edu/event/weaving_new_beginnings_2747> gathering.

Weaving New Beginnings is an initiative created by the ASUO, Student Life, and the Race Task Force, in collaboration with dozens of other departments, to bring faculty and staff of color together with students of color in hopes of promoting networking, education, and mentoring opportunities.  Weaving New Beginnings has proven to be a vital tool in the retention of students, staff, and faculty of these communities.

The 23ndAnnual Weaving New Beginnings will take place on Thursday, October 19, 2017 in the Erb Memorial Union Ballroom from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.  There will be dinner, music and lots of opportunities to network.

This event remains an important endeavor to welcome all members of the community.  It is crucial that we build community so that we have a network of support that will allow all to feel a sense of belonging and support.   If you are new to the community, we encourage you to attend this event to allow us to officially welcome you and to meet other colleagues and students.

If you are not new to the community, please come out and welcome our new colleagues and students and share your valuable resources and information.  This is a great networking opportunity and a great evening is being planned for all.

If you know a new student or faculty/ staff member who may not have received this message, please pass this along to them and bring them along.
