CRITICAL ALERT: MEDICAID FUNDING AT RISK
Dear Heidi,
We're reaching out with grave concern about an imminent threat to healthcare for 80 million Americans — including 17 million older adults and people with disabilities who rely on Medicaid for healthcare and critical home and community-based services. Right now, Congressional leaders are fast-tracking legislation that would devastate Medicaid funding to finance tax breaks for the wealthy, and we need you to call Congress by this Tuesday, May 20!
Join the National Call-In Day on May 20, 2025
People with disabilities and other advocates are springing into action across the country — like we always have — to protect the services we need to live. Here’s how you can help between today and next Tuesday, May 20:
1. Call (202) 224-3121
2. Ask to be connected to your Representative's office
3. Tell them to Vote NO on the Reconciliation Bill and protect Medicaid!
Here’s a sample script you are welcome to use:
"Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I'm a constituent of Representative [NAME]. I am calling to urge Representative [NAME] to vote NO on the reconciliation bill that will soon head to the House floor. [Share why proposed cuts matter to you: How does Medicaid support you, a loved one, or your community?] Please make sure the Representative knows I want them to vote NO when this comes to the House floor."
You can email Congress, too, if you cannot call (or want to do both!) ><https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/default.salsalabs.org/T5dcc30fb-170d-4dbf-a93e-7fca2324290b/6a0ed977-5dd8-4ada-a810-9e5b0f874207__;!!C5qS4YX3!BrClP0Y4s9r6CzF3ST1K4a_cnWBEzn_9hyWWAc8eVYVnq-8cV4AZRIt18-6qjg1WZAVyba6J06bD9Ef_$>
Why This Matters
Medicaid — known as the Oregon Health Plan in our state — provides essential healthcare to 1.3 million Oregonians, including:
· 43% of children and 25% of adults in rural Oregon
· 2 in 5 of all U.S. births
· 1 in 6 non-elderly adults
· 2 in 5 non-elderly adults with disabilities
· 1 in 4 people with substance use disorders or mental illness
· 3 in 5 nursing home facility residents
Any cuts to Medicaid will cause harm, disproportionately impacting children, older adults, and people with disabilities. The time for action is now, before these cuts become reality.
No Room for Compromise
Congress needs to hear directly from constituents about how devastating Medicaid cuts would be for you, for your family, and for all people with disabilities. Your personal stories are powerful and make a difference. We must protect the vital services that millions depend on to live full, independent lives. There are literally lives at stake.
