Why is AT important to the disability community?

·     Assistive technology is essential for individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in society.

·     Barriers to AT repairs deny individuals with disabilities access to the communities in which they live.

·     Assistive Technology that are not repaired risk injury to those who use them and medical complications for those who cannot use them.

·     The “Right to Repair” ensures that people with disabilities, support people, and families can repair and maintain their devices without undue cost or delay.

Pre-authorization requirements for repairs through the health care system are hard to navigate and take too long for common repairs.

Rules and restrictions about parts that require AT to be repaired by the original manufacturer make repair impossible, costly, or delayed.
