Hi Katie,
Oh wow, losing a key person is rough. Hope you are able to onboard a new person quickly.
Absolutely, when it’s ready, you are most welcome to post to the uodsp listserv! It sounds like working remotely could be part of the job which would help with finding someone in Oregon.
I’d be happy to loop in John Inglish over at the law school. He’s Director of the Conflict and Dispute Resolution program. He’s my best contact for who has their finger on the pulse of students and disability law. He might have someone in mind for your job opening and/or ideas about a clinic.
I’m looking forward to talking with you and Hilary too.
Warm Regards—Heidi

Hi Heidi,
Hope you’re well!
I returned from vacation last week to learn that my top employee had resigned! We are still working on a formal job description – but I wanted to reach out to you and ask if you knew of anyone who might be interested or where I might look for applicants. The position is for a technical assistance specialist who would spend 3-4 days a week answering questions about the Americans with Disabilities Act. We have a hotline and email address where people with disabilities, business owners, ADA coordinators, and architects ask all kinds of questions about rights and requirements under the ADA. The questions range from basic (for example, where do I go to register my service animal?) to complicated (for example, would it be reasonable to provide an accommodation where a student does not need to participate in class discussions in a discussion-based class?). I would love to create a legal clinic or internship program for law students to practice issue spotting, be introduced to the ADA, and learn to talk with very diverse “potential clients.” The work reminds me a lot of my first summer internship answering questions at legal aid in Oklahoma. There’s also room in the position to give trainings, develop social media posts, write a blog, or other kinds of information dissemination and outreach.
It would be great to find someone who already have a familiarity with the ADA, but in the past the NW ADA Center has hired people with no ADA knowledge. I’m imagining this might be a nice fit for a recent law graduate who isn’t sure they want to practice law or maybe an attorney who is burned out working at legal aid. A legal background isn’t necessary, but I think it would be helpful.
Once we have a description finalized, would it be possible for me to send it to the DS listserv? I would prefer to find an Oregon based candidate.
Looking forward to connecting with you and Hilary!
Katie
