Hello! I thought you might find these answers to questions about the May 5 Disability Studies event, Careers in Disability Equality, of interest to your students. Thanks! Betsy

* Is this the first event of its kind or is this an annual talk?


This is the first event of its kind, but the Disability Studies Minor plans to host regular public forums on a variety of topics in future.

* What can people who zoom in expect?

  *   Great stories and tips from people who have forged success on their own terms.
  *   How to use your talents and imagination to advance equality.
  *   Information on making the leap from school to career.
  *   Knowledge about navigating the working world with a disability.
* When was this minor established, how many students participate in it,
how has it grown, and what are your future goals for the minor?



  *   The UO Disability Studies Minor began in Fall 2017 and grew rapidly to its current size of 60 students.
  *   Future goals include turning the minor into a community hub for disabled students, faculty, and staff at UO.

* What do you hope people will take away from this event?

  *   It is possible to find fulfilling work that puts your principles to work, too.

  *   Disability Studies makes an excellent knowledge base for a wide variety of careers, not only in health professions and education, but also in filmmaking, law and policy, information technology, human resources, fiction writing, and media communications.
