Hello Dr. Ravensberg,

I am a masters student at the University of Texas at El Paso and I am conducting a study for my thesis about teachers in higher education who have a mental illness and how do they teach effectively despite having a mental illness, and I was wondering if you would be able to send this through your department’s listserv so that I can reach as many people as I can to make my thesis research richer.

A background of why I am conducing this thesis is because for the last year I have taught a first-year writing course and realized that my Borderline Personality Disorder interfered with my work at times and I had to figure out different strategies to teach effectively. For example, I had to separate my students into groups of 5 so that I wouldn’t feel as though I had 25 students but rather 5. I had to come up with 3 different lessons I could do in case I dissociated and forgot what I was doing, if this happened I had 3 back up lessons. For this reason, I decided to write my thesis about how teachers with a mental illness teach and what strategies have they create to help them.

I created a voluntary questionnaire and placed the link below. Peoples responses will be collected anonymously, and I ask not to include any direct identifiers in the answers, such as names or institution’s name. If they would like to skip a question, please leave the space provided blank or write why they would like to skip the question.

If you may, could you please share this survey with colleagues in your department so that my survey can reach more people. I would greatly appreciate your help in allowing me to collect as much information about this topic for my thesis.
