Hi Dr. Von Ravensberg,
I am one of the disability studies minors and I was wondering if you could send this information in the email I forwarded out to the minor email list.
The season for Oregon Adaptive Sports starts this winter, and the program is looking for volunteers and participants for ski lessons. The really cool thing is that any UO student who has a disability can get free ski lessons with this program!
OAS is really looking to get the word about about this free skiing opportunity to more UO students, and I thought this could be a good way to do so.
This is being organized through the Outdoor Program, so anyone who is interested can go there for more info.
Thanks!
Emily

Winter is upon us, and with the snow comes Oregon Adaptive Sports! OAS provides adaptive equipment and lessons to facilitate outdoor recreation experiences for individuals with disabilities. For winter programming, OAS and the Outdoor Program provide transportation for both volunteers and participants from Eugene up to Hoodoo Ski resort every Friday and Sunday of winter term. We’d love to see lots of UO faces on the mountain this winter! If you’re interested in getting involved as a volunteer or participant, keep reading….
Volunteer Info:
–The (MANDATORY) volunteer orientation and training will be on Jan 5th, the day before school starts, starting at 8:30 am. Transportation to Hoodoo will be provided.
–Volunteers must be competent skiing or snowboarding (feeling comfortable on blue runs at Hoodoo is a good metric), and must be able to stay in control while assisting with lessons.
–Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend four consecutive Friday OR Saturday sessions (or more!) to maintain consistent staffing.
–After your first three days of volunteering, every day you volunteer for OAS you’ll get a FREE lift ticket to use at a later date (and all volunteer day lift tickets are free)!
Participant Info:
–Participants can self qualify if they feel they are a good fit for the program, and have a disability, physical or otherwise, that limits them from getting on skis or other equipment. This doesn’t include temporary conditions (e.g. a broken bone).
–Financial limitations will not stop anyone from participating in the program! OAS has a generous scholarship fund and will be able to help out, and the Outdoor Program has the Ellie Bartlett Memorial Fund that provides full ride scholarships for any University student looking to get involved.

Hope to see lots of you up on the snow this winter!
