Both of these weekly series will be taught by Certified DanceAbility teachers. Jana Meszaros is a Certified Master Teacher and will be leading the Cottage Grove classes, and Madeleine Sisson is a Certified DanceAbility Teacher who will be leading the Eugene classes. Jana has been leading the classes at Hilyard and Opal for three years. She loves sharing this work and dancing with all who want to dance. In class, “you will learn a lot about dance and dancing with others – we will explore our own unique movement in a shared and creative environment.” Madeleine has been teaching many styles of dance locally for six years and is excited to begin teaching DanceAbility classes after assisting Jana in her classes. “Dance is for everyone and everyone can take part in the joy and benefits of movement.“

DanceAbility classes consist of dance and movement exercises and explorations that build camaraderie, physical awareness, and expressive capabilities. The DanceAbility method is a contemporary dance practice taught in a way that ensures no one is isolated, regardless of experience, abilities or disabilities.

For these classes, non-disabled family members of participants with disabilities are encouraged and welcome to join. Additionally, people without disabilities who are interested in the experience of connecting through creative movement and the study of improvisation are encouraged and welcome to attend, alongside those with disabilities.

Full and partial scholarships are available to all who need them, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
