Eugene, Oregon – On Thursday, March 8th, join DanceAbility International and Karen Daly for a dance demonstration and performance featuring dancers with and without disabilities, combined with a literary event at the Hilyard Community Center in Eugene, OR. Karen will read from her new memoir “Joy Ride” and perform a dance piece with DanceAbility instructor, Jana Meszaros, choreographed by DanceAbility’s Artistic Director Alito Alessi. Copies of the book will be sold at the event. There will be light refreshments and the event is free.

“Joy Ride: My One-Legged Journey to Self Acceptance” is the story of Karen’s perseverance through losing her right leg to cancer at age 11. Fierce, independent, and determined, she calls the fruits of her search “luck,” finding opportunities and generous people who appeared along the journey of her inner and outer travels.

“On my journey after losing my leg I have met bulimia and denial. I looked for love in all the wrong places, and it surprised me in the right places too. When I discovered improvisational dance and became a frequent collaborator with the renowned DanceAbility International, I found my inspiration and the life I was meant to live.” – Karen Daly

March 8 is also the final date of DanceAbility’s Eugene weekly winter classes. DanceAbility students will present a demonstration of what they have learned during the Winter session. The Eugene Spring session dates are Thursday, April 12th through Thursday, June 7th Youth classes are from 4:00-5:00pm, and Adult classes are from 5:00-6:00pm, all at the Hilyard Community Center. Cottage Grove classes, for youth and adults, will be held each Monday at 5:15pm from April 23 through June 18, at the Opal Center, 515 E. Main Street.
