I have recently learned that the American Institute of Architecture
Students has been involved with designing shelters for Community
Supported Shelters. These shelters are designed to accommodate the needs
of the homeless in Eugene. UO PeaceJam is also involved with assisting
the homeless in Eugene. A recent study has ranked Oregon the worst state
in American when dealing with mental health issues. Many mental health
patients in Oregon do not receive proper treatment and end up homeless.
The UOAT already proffers the Universal Accessibility agenda and I would
like to become more involved with the homeless issue as well considering
the unfortunate link between homelessness and mental health. What do you
think about these issues or what do you suggest the UOAT could do to
help remedy these issues?
Also I was thinking about using one of the large lecture rooms in
Lawerence in the evenings to show cool new independent animated videos
and play dance music and call the weekly performance art "Silent Neon
Dance Party"? What say you?
