Open Rehearsal and China Send-Off

WHERE: Hilyard Community Center, 2580 Hilyard St., Eugene, Oregon, 97405
FREE and suitable for adults, and families with children.
RSVP preferred but not required. Space is limited to about 50 seats plus standing room.

This open rehearsal showcases the new 20-minute dance piece, "Third Wheel," directed by Alito Alessi, with dancers Alessi, Emery Blackwell, and Jana Meszaros. The piece will get its stage premiere in Shanghai, China, on April 29, 2017 at the International Dance Day Summit. DanceAbility International has the great honor of sharing the stage with the Trisha Brown Dance Company and Chinese dance companies. Alito Alessi will give the Summit's keynote speech and the three dancers will teach DanceAbility method workshops there. Much of the music for the piece is by local band Mood Area 52. Please try to arrive between 11:15 and 11:30am. Trisha Brown, a giant of U.S. dance, passed away very recently and is the International Dance Day 2017 Message Author.

EUGENE Youth: Thursday's, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
COTTAGE GROVE Combo Adults/Teens:

In these creative movement classes, led by Jana Meszaros, participants explore how their bodies want to move, explore improvisation, and connect profoundly with each other through dance and movement.

Spring Session will have 10 weeks of classes. (No class Memorial Day weekend, so Monday May 29.) Full and partial scholarships are available. $100 for 10 classes. Pro-rated open enrollment is available. First class free for newcomers.

The classes are supported in part by individual donors, operating support grants from Lane Arts Council and the Oregon Arts Commission, by the Gordon D. Wright and Anne G. Moffett Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, and Spirit Mountain Community Fund.

Weekly Contact Improvisation Jams

These are normally every Friday, 2:45 - 4:15pm at 2580 Hilyard St., but they may be discontinued after April, so please check with us.

There is a new evening Jam starting up, every Wednesday, 7:00 - 9:00pm, at Xcape Dance in the Knights of the Pythias Building, 420 W. 12th Ave., at 12th and Lawrence, starting Wednesday, April 5th and continuing year-round. Joint Forces Dance Company's Sara Zolbrod is one of ten Contact Collective members that will run the Wednesday Jam.

Both Jams have a Guided Warm-Up or Mini-Lesson for the first half hour, and then switch into open contact improvisation dancing after that. Both Jams are $5 and up, sliding scale.
