The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed at the United Nations in 2015, and global progress towards achieving them is reviewed each year at a meeting of governments in New York - the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, or 'HLPF'.

The rights and participation of persons with disabilities are crucial elements of the SDGs. Persons with disabilities have the right to participate and inform the HLPF of their experience, expertise and perspective. We are writing to disability rights experts and advocates to ask for your contribution to the global review process, drawing on your work relating to sustainable development.

The Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities<http://www.internationaldisabilityalliance.org/DPOs-SDGs> is the official group that has the right to input on behalf of persons with disabilities at the High-level Political Forum. We are inviting you to sign up to join and contribute to this Stakeholder Group by providing information about yourself and organisation, and indicating which of its Working Groups you would like to participate in. The Working Groups will be coordinated by the IDA Secretariat in order to facilitate participation, shape messages and prepare for the HLPF.

The first Stakeholder Group preparatory coordination call for the HLPF 2017 will be taking place on December 5th 2016, 10am EST (3pm GMT). The call will include International Sign interpretation, and live captioning (CART)

Your participation in the Stakeholder Group does not depend on whether you are able to attend the HLPF in New York in July 2017 or not, or if you are not sure yet, there are many ways to participate in person, in advance or remotely. We advise all those interested in shaping the process to join the call on December 5th, but the Stakeholder Group can accept new participants on rolling basis beyond December 5th.

Participation of persons with disabilities in the 2016 HLPF<http://www.internationaldisabilityalliance.org/events/high-level-political-forum-2016> made an important impact, and ensured that the inclusion and rights of persons with disabilities were addressed by governments throughout the Forum. In order to ensure a strong level of meaningful participation at the 2017 HLPF, it is necessary to start preparations now.

The theme for the HLPF 2017 is 'Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world' and the Goals to be reviewed in depth include:
*  Goal 1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere
*  Goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
*  Goal 3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
*  Goal 5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
*  Goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
*  Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
*  Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development
The voluntary national reviews on SDG implementation will be provided by the following countries: Argentina, Belarus, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Monaco, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Qatar, Slovenia, Sweden, Thailand, Togo, and Uruguay.
