Dear MIUSA supporters,
We want to share some bittersweet news. On July 31st, we will be saying
goodbye to Ruby Holmes. Ruby has been an invaluable member of our staff for
five years, contributing to and enhancing our exchange programs and our
organization in so many ways. Although we are sad to lose Ruby's joyful
presence, we are also extremely happy for her: she will be continuing on her
career path, attending graduate school at American University in Washington
DC, where she will focus on International Peace and Conflict Resolution.
As you may know, we are preparing for a busy exchange season. While we will
miss Ruby very much, we are fortunate to have a solid base of experienced
staff to pick up where Ruby leaves off. Suz Dunn will lead our 8th Women's
Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD) team, and will be the point of
contact for all WILD homestay families and responsible for logistics. Suz
will be assisted by Tiffany Ahn, our Program Assistant who will be with us
through summer. Stephanie Gray will lead the weeklong FLEX/YES Preparatory
Workshop for international high school students with disabilities, with
support from Cindy Lewis and Jamie Rivas, who will also lead a new
orientation program (YEAR) for college students with disabilities from
Russia. As always, you will undoubtedly see every one of our amazing staff
members on program sometime during the summer, as well as a few new,
energetic assistants, interns and volunteers.
We are confident that this will be a successful and rewarding exchange
season. We are also confident that we will stay in touch with Ruby, and that
our paths will cross many times as she moves through her journey to make
this world a better place.
I know you will join me and MIUSA staff in wishing Ruby all the best.
Warm regards,
Susan Sygall
