Subject: "In the Studio" With DanceAbility International
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“In the Studio” With DanceAbility International
“Through interpretation, every person can make every movement, and any one part of the body can both experience and express every emotion.” Alito Alessi, DanceAbility Founder
Eugene, Oregon – On March 3rd, DanceAbility International will be sharing a demonstration and a short performance at Hilyard Community Center in Eugene, OR. This is the culmination of a ten-week class that welcomes people of all abilities and disabilities. DanceAbility International’s Oregon dance programs have expanded over the last year to include several rural areas of Lane County. Each week, attendees build camaraderie, physical awareness and explore expressive capabilities through dance. Just as the classes promote independence and equality, this showing opens the hearts and minds of both children and adults.
The DanceAbility method shares creative movement practices that allow anybody and everybody’s movement to emerge, through individual and group expression. “I encourage each student to find and cultivate their personal style, and to identify the qualities of movement that feel good for them. I see that the classes are very empowering,” states Jana Mezsaros, DanceAbility Teacher.
The classes are attended by a wide range of students, each bringing energy and ambition to class on a weekly basis. Each person benefits from the class in different ways. In the Cottage Grove youth class, the youngest dancer comes excited to learn and play each week, while another dancer in her 70’s comes to find ease of movement within her personal range.
SUMMARY: “In the Studio,” Thursday, March 3rd from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Hilyard Community Center, 2580 Hilyard St, Eugene, OR 97405. Open to the public. Free.
For more information or to interview teacher Jana Meszaros or a teen participant in the class, please contact Kathryn Gaines at 541-357-4982 or email her at kathryn at danceability.com<mailto:sara at danceability.com>.
This dance programming is funded in part by donations from individuals and grants from the Lane Arts Council, Oregon Community Foundation, Oregon Arts Commission, and Oregon Cultural Trust.
DanceAbility International Mission: DanceAbility International’s mission is to create opportunities for people with and without disabilities to dance and move together. Our vision is that through dance and movement, people from very diverse backgrounds experience the art of being together. The work of DanceAbility International helps decrease prejudice and misconceptions about diversity in the field of dance, and by extension in society.
