Subject: [dislaw] NEWS from the OSB Disability Law Section
Disability Law Section members,
I write to announce two exciting developments – a new section website and a new section-sponsored professional development scholarship.
Website: Your section executive committee has spent many months working to revamp our section’s website and make it a more useful resource for you, the membership, as well as the general public. We are proud to announce that it is finally up and running! We encourage you to explore the new site, and offer us feedback. We can’t wait to hear from you! https://disabilitylaw.osbar.org
Professional Development Scholarship: As you’ll notice on our new website, the section has established a new professional development scholarship for law students and lawyers interested in disability rights. Details are listed below and on our website. Please spread the news of the scholarship far and wide by linking to the website: https://disabilitylaw.osbar.org/announcement/
Thank you,

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR LAW STUDENTS AND LAWYERS INTERESTED IN DISABILITY RIGHTS
The Oregon State Bar Disability Law Section Executive Committee has established a fund to support the professional development of Oregon lawyers and law students who are interested in pursuing a career in disability rights, advocating for persons with disabilities, or who have personal experience overcoming barriers or discrimination. The recipient of the Committee’s scholarship will receive a scholarship to cover his or her registration fees at a law-related conference, such as the American Bar Association’s National Association of Law Students with Disabilities Conference, as well as reimbursement for reasonable travel expenses. Applicants must either practice in Oregon, attend law school in Oregon, or have a personal connection to Oregon and intend on pursuing a legal career in the state. Grants will vary in quantity, depending on the successful recipient’s needs and availability of funds, but may include conference fees paid directly to the conference organizer and reimbursement for reasonable travel expenses, subject to approval by the Bar’s Executive Director. Interested lawyers and law students may apply by submitting a letter of no more than two pages, addressed to the OSB Disability Law Section Executive Committee, to EmilyFox at markowitzherbold.com<mailto:EmilyFox at markowitzherbold.com>, or by mail to Beth Englander at 522 SW 5th Ave., Suite 812, Portland Oregon 97204. The Committee will continue to review applications on a rolling basis, but applicants should submit applications by Friday, February 26th, 2016, to ensure consideration. The Committee can only consider applications regarding events at least three weeks after the date of submission, and only for events through December 2016. The application letter should include the following information:
• Your name and contact information;
• Whether you practice law in Oregon;
• Your law school, if you are a law student;
• Your year in law school, if you are a law student;
• Your connection to the state of Oregon, if you are not a practicing Oregon lawyer;
• Whether you intend to pursue a legal career in Oregon, if you are a law student;
• Your interest in pursuing a career in disability rights;
• Your experience advocating for persons with disabilities;
• Any experience overcoming barriers or discrimination;
• Name, date, and description of the conference for which funding is requested;
• How the conference for which funding is requested will result in your professional development;
• Whether you could attend without Committee funding; and
• Dollar amount requested from the Committee.
