Dear Friends:

I hope this email, which provides a description of current AASU news, finds you all doing well.

What follows is news about our weekly meetings, an update about bringing the photo Exhibit Reinventing the Wheel: Life After Spinal Chord Injuries to UO in February, and information about the January 6, 2016, ASUO Senate action to develop a working group to create a resolution to use universal design strategies in student government here at UO.

1. AASU's winter term weekly meetings

AASU's weekly meetings during the winter term are scheduled for Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 in Straub Hall, Room 253.

Leslie Gilbert, a former UO employee that is finishing her Masters in Public Health through OHSU, is going to facilitate wellness workshops as part of our meetings on 1/20, 1/27, and 2/3. We are finalizing the details at our meeting on 1/13, so stay tuned for a follow up announcement.

Please let me know if you want to join AASU but our meeting times don't work for you. We are planning other community gatherings, and we can schedule those around peoples' availabilities.

This is a busy and productive year for AASU. JOIN US AND GET INVOLVED.

2. Reinventing the Wheel: Life After Spinal Chord Injuries.

AASU and the ASUO Executive Committee are collaborating with many campus partners to host an art Exhibit entitled Reinventing the Wheel: Life after Spinal Chord Injuries in February. The curator, Revecca Torres who founded BACKBONES, will join us for the opening of the Exhibit.

For a description about the Exhibit, visit Backbones:

Stay tuned for a formal announcement, which will include detailed information about all of our partners.

3. Student Leadership implementing Universal Design Principles

AASU is also working with the ASUO Senate to incorporate Universal Design and Accommodations, consistent with the ADA, into student government here at UO. On January 6, ASUO passed a motion to create a working group to develop a resolution that will make these innovations a lasting part of UO student government. Stay tuned for working group meeting times so you can lend your voice to this initiative.

Please share this information with all your networks by forwarding it on your listserves and to your contacts.

Stay tuned for updates and more announcements.
