The department seeks individuals with a background in Crip Theory at
the interdisciplinary intersection of critical disability, feminist,
queer, and critical race/ethnic studies. We are interested in critical
disability studies scholars whose work challenges parameters of the

related assemblages of power; and whose work will add to our strengths
in transnational and intersectional feminisms.

  Qualifications
· Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree (or documented
completion of degree requirements by August 1, 2016). We especially
welcome applications from candidates with their degree (or
certification, designated emphasis, etc) in Women and Gender Studies,
but also invite applications from candidates with degrees in related
fields with demonstrated experience in WGS/feminist studies.
· Candidates must have a strong background in crip theory and
intersectional and/or transnational feminisms.
· Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach courses in the
area of crip theory, core WGS courses, and elective and general
education courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
· Candidates must have an active record of scholarship related to
their specialty area.
· Candidates are preferred who have teaching and/or research
experience with a large, diverse student body.

  Responsibilities
The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in Women and
Gender Studies, developing an active ongoing research program in one’s
area of specialty, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate
students, and collegial and collaborative work on committee and service
assignments.

About Women and Gender Studies at SFSU
The Women and Gender Studies Department at SFSU was founded in 1976, one
of the first such departments in the United States. Forged out of
transformative activism and scholarship, the department uses
interdisciplinary approaches and foregrounds transnational and
intersectional relationships among gender, race, sexuality, nation,
labor, technologies, and globalization. Our students engage in
challenging academics, work closely with professors, and lead community
initiatives. Faculty typically teach three courses per semester (though
competitive awards of release time for research are often available),
maintain an active research and publishing profile, and advise
undergraduate and Masters students in the department. We encourage
intellectual collaborations within the department as well as across the
profession, and also support applications for internal and external
funding to support research productivity.
