Subject: Travel Tip: Oregon DMV REAL ID

UO Travelers and Concur Delegates –

Oregon DMV began issuing REAL ID compliant cards on July 6, 2020. REAL ID compliant cards have a new design including a star in the upper right corner. To receive a REAL ID card, you will be required to present documents to the DMV which will be scanned and stored securely for 10 years. While obtaining a REAL ID card is not mandatory for many people, if you are a domestic traveler or enter federal buildings and facilities, obtaining a REAL ID cards will be required for you. REAL ID cards from other states do not transfer to Oregon. New Oregon residents will be required to obtain an Oregon REAL ID card.

In order to receive an Oregon REAL ID card, you will need to provide these documents at the Oregon DMV for verification:

  * Identity and legal presence. Acceptable documents include a US government issued birth certification, unexpired US passport/passport card, Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship, Consular Record of Birth Abroad, valid permanent resident card, valid employment authorization card, an unexpired foreign passport with an unexpired visa and valid I-94 issued by DHS, or an unexpired passport issued from the Federated State of Micronesia, the Republic of Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Palau and a valid I-94 issued by DHS.
  * Social Security number. Acceptable documents include a Social Security Card, W2 form, or paystub. Documents must include your name and SSN.
  * Address. Acceptable documents can be found here.<https://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/Pages/DriverID/IDProof.aspx> You must provide two pieces of documentation to provide address and you must present hardcopy documents for imaging purposes.

Fees: to replace your current Oregon driver’s license with the REAL ID card, you will pay the standard replacement cost plus the REAL ID fee of $30.

The Real ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005, based on recommendations from the 9/11 Commission that the federal government “set standards for issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses”. The Act establishes standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards must meet in order to be accepted for certain federal purpose such as passing through TSA airport security and entering federal buildings and facilities.
