<p class="short-top-space"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">The Institute is an online distance learning experience held by NDACAN to achieve the following goals:<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">Users of NDACAN data will apply for the SRI, and after a selective review process, a group of up to 20 scholars will be invited to participate. NDACAN staff and SRI participants will
convene online on the dates above for a series of virtual meetings. These meetings usually involve the following formats:<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="short-top-space"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">The SRI will begin the morning of Thursday, June 1 with a Welcome & Introductions session, and will conclude on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 6. The intervening weekend days
are for SRI participants to work on their projects on their own, and support from NDACAN staff resumes on Monday, June 5. NDACAN can assist researchers using SPSS, Stata, SAS, and R,
<strong><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">but not MPlus. </span></strong>(Many of the multi-level analyses that can be done in MPlus can also now be done using other software such as Stata.)<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="short-top-space"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">SRI participants have access to the NDACAN Research Analysts, the NDACAN Project Director, the NDACAN Graduate Research Assistant, and NDACAN-affiliated post-doctoral researchers
and faculty. These staff are available to advise, instruct, and support the participants so that they make substantial progress on their projects. SRI participants can also meet with and learn from other participants who are using the same dataset, studying
related research questions, or applying similar statistical methods.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<h2><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Selection of Participants<o:p></o:p></span></h2>
<p class="short-top-space"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">NDACAN encourages applications from advanced graduate students, post-docs, early-career faculty, and other researchers. Applicants are rated based on the quality of the proposal,
research background, and intention to publish. In addition, an attempt will be made to identify sets of proposals that complement each other either through use of the same dataset, interest in a similar content area, or application of similar statistical techniques.

that the participant’s IRB issues an approval or exemption, a process which can be lengthy. Therefore, SRI applicants proposing to use restricted data should initiate the IRB approval process before submitting the SRI application.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
