Hello CPSY, PREV, and CFT students,

You may have seen an email yesterday inviting you to join a new Teams channel, called “CPHS graduate student-faculty shared channel” (from Kristen King). This is not spam! This new Teams channel includes all current graduate students and
faculty in CPHS. Based on student input, CPHS faculty created this channel to give students access to information about our faculty-staff meetings, and to provide you the opportunity to join specific meetings. There is no program or departmental expectation
that you do or do not join—it is your choice.

Below is a brief Q&A, based on comments and questions faculty received about the faculty-staff meetings from students. We hope to see some of you at a future meeting!

Q: Where can I learn what will be discussed at the faculty-staff meetings, so I can decide if I would like to join?

A: Within this new Teams channel, there is a General channel

here where we will post information about departmental faculty-staff meetings. In the Files - Class Materials folder, you will see two folders – 1 folder contains the meeting agenda for the upcoming faculty-staff meeting, and the other folder contains meeting
minutes. In general, meeting agendas will be posted to this channel 24 hours in advance of the meeting, and minutes will be posted ~1 week after the meeting.

Q: When are the meetings, and what parts can I attend?

A: Faculty and staff across the CPHS department meet on Fridays from 8:45 – 10:00. Students are invited to attend
every other faculty meeting, for the 8:45 – 9:15 portion of the meeting. For fall term, students can join from 8:45 – 9:15 on the following dates, note that there is only 1 faculty meeting between weeks 7-9 due to university closures on Veterans Day
and the day after Thanksgiving:

October 21 (week 4)

November 4 (week 6)

December 2 (week 10)

Q: How do I join the meeting?

A: The Zoom link will always be listed on the agenda in the Teams folder. I have also listed it here:
https://uoregon.zoom.us/j/95634215095 . Some faculty will attend via Zoom and some will attend in person, depending on the meeting (faculty make their own decision about this each
week).

Q: Can programs have an official representative at the faculty-staff meetings?

A: Students may choose to self-select one or more program representatives to join the faculty-staff meetings if you wish—that decision is up to students. Any student can join the meeting on the dates/times noted above.

Q: What is my role in the meeting?

A: For some agenda items student input may be especially relevant, and we may seek your input as part of the meeting. Like faculty and staff, you may also ask questions in the meeting or offer your perspectives on any agenda topic. If you
prefer, you can post a “conversation” in Teams with your input.

Q: What happens in the meetings when students aren’t present?

A: Faculty need executive sessions to have discussions around topics like tenure and promotion files, admissions processes, admissions decisions, and hiring decisions. In addition, sometimes we are in the early stages of a programmatic
conversation and need to have a faculty discussion before seeking student input. Broad topics discussed in the executive sessions will be listed on the agendas that will be posted in the Teams channel.

Q: Can I add items to the faculty staff meeting agenda?

A: We keep a running list (with a backlog!) of items to discuss at future faculty meetings. If you have an item you’d like discussed, you can either email it to me or to one of the program staff, or you can add a “new conversation”
in Teams and list it there. Agenda items are prioritized for discussion based on their time sensitivity.

Do you have more questions? Please post them on
