<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">I wanted to let you know that I am currently working as a research scientist with the Social Development Research Group at UW-Seattle, and my group has several PhD-level openings for the position of Research
Scientist/Analyst, starting January 1, 2022 and possibly sooner. Prevention Science is ideal training - do you know anyone who might be interested? These positions are 100% grant funded (i.e., soft money), and most have multiple years of funding available.
It’s worth knowing that scientists at SDRG typically join via soft money, but historically we’ve been successful in retaining our soft money researchers for long periods of time – 10 to 20+ years.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">I am attaching a general position description, but wanted to mention a few specifics. SDRG has renewed its focus on reducing health disparities related to prevention and positive youth outcomes. Current and
future projects address improving the evidence for risk and protective factors within and among under served and marginalized people. We have and continue to examine and adapt our internal climate and processes to be inclusive and become a more anti-racist
organization. We would appreciate your support by encouraging any BIPOC candidates you might know in any health-related field (e.g., psychology, public health, epidemiology, social work) both at the early and mid-career stage. Ideally candidates will be interested
in joining our team to reach the aims of currently funded projects while also growing their own scholarship through developing new proposals. We are a multidisciplinary group, mostly at the mid-career level, who are eager to mentor and support every team member
to their full potential. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">SDRG is great place to develop expertise in prevention science, grant writing, and longitudinal data analysis. Several projects use mixed methods so candidates with solid quantitative skills as well as some
qualitative data analysis experience are welcome. Two of our projects are evaluations of prevention programs and candidates interested in developing or applying their skills in program evaluation are strongly encouraged to apply. Several projects are centered
on substance use (e-cigarettes/ENDS and cannabis, in particular), and one is a study of development and transitions during adulthood that affect midlife (late 40s) health and functioning. All of our studies are longitudinal, so experience with complex longitudinal
data is a plus. Developmental theory and etiological models (especially the social development model) are also central to most of our work.
