<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Helvetica;color:black">The University of Oregon has been selected as an awardee of the Garrett Lee Smith (GLS) Campus Suicide Prevention grant, a program of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration (SAMHSA), Department of Health and Human Services. The goal of the GLS grant program is to reduce suicide ideation, attempts, and deaths by suicide, as well as substance use outcomes, among college and university students. At the UO,
this three-year award will support programming to 1) increase the capacity of students, faculty, and staff to effectively recognize, respond to, and refer students in distress and at-risk for suicide; (2) increase treatment service and resource availability
and awareness among students at risk for the development of suicidal behavior; and 3) increase campus community member and student family awareness of response protocols for providing support for students experiencing acute distress or suicidal ideation. The
funded activities will leverage on-campus Implementation Science and suicide prevention research and evaluation expertise to plan and comprehensively assess the effectiveness of project activities, and to develop and disseminate new knowledge based on program
success, particularly among LGBTQ and veteran campus communities. Through coordinated and collaborative efforts, the program will aim to strengthen the mental health, resilience, and well-being of each UO student through addressing and closing key gaps in
services, knowledge and training, and suicide and substance use outcomes.</span><o:p></o:p></p>
