shelter and in child and adolescent mental health services. Dr. Fusco currently serves as Associate Professor and Chair of Direct Practice in the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh, and in that role she oversees the practice curriculum,
supervises students in their internships, and leads an advisory board of community practitioners. She also has a joint appointment with her university’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute where she helps faculty develop ways to conduct applied research
and more broadly disseminate their results. Her practice experience has contributed to her academic scholarship, and she continues to conduct research with families experiencing child maltreatment and/or domestic violence. Dr. Fusco’s work has been funded
by the Children’s Bureau and the State of Pennsylvania’s Office of Children, Youth, and Families. She has published numerous papers on family violence in journals such as the
Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Child Welfare, and Children & Youth Services Review. Additionally she has published one of the few studies on interracial domestic violence and the only known paper on biracial children’s overrepresentation in the child
welfare system. Dr. Fusco will present research she conducted within the Pennsylvania child welfare system, including findings on vulnerable subpopulations. She will discuss the implications of her research results for intervention work with children and families
who have experienced family violence and are at high risk for poor outcomes.
